Making Noise: The Unexpected Origins of
THE MDG CREW

In late 2017, over a decade after stepping away from the local music scene, Adam Farley—former member of early 2000s pop groups Evalution and Project 5—decided to release his first solo EP, All the Right Reasons. Inspired by the birth of his daughter and with the support of his wife, Adam finally made the leap to revive his musical career.

After completing the final touches on the EP with his good friend, guitarist, and producer Jim Reynolds, Adam set out to form a backing band for a one-night EP release party in Scranton. What he didn’t expect was that this single performance, held in the fall of 2018, would spark the creation of a future award-winning local trio.

That trio, originally formed with longtime friends Bob Foley (aka DJ Boogie Bob) and drummer Dave Cali, became known as The MDG Crew. From their first practice in Adam’s dad’s basement to sharing plates of Waldo’s wings (courtesy of Adam’s dad), the trio’s bond grew stronger. It was Bob who coined the name The MDG Crew, drawing inspiration from their childhood days spent on the little league field of Marvine Dutch Gap.

Known for their diverse setlist and high-energy performances, word quickly spread about the trio’s electrifying shows. Over time, The MDG Crew toured venues across Pennsylvania and even played at the iconic Bowery Electric in New York City. They also had the privilege of opening for national acts like Shwayze, Bubba Sparxxx, and Ryan Cabrera. In addition, they won two Steamtown Music Awards as part of the Electric City Music Conference, which celebrates both local and international talent in Scranton.

In February 2023, The MDG Crew suffered an immense loss when Bob tragically passed away after a courageous battle with terminal brain cancer. However, the band remains dedicated to carrying on Bob’s legacy, ensuring that his spirit and contributions to their music will never be forgotten.
